Founded in 1953, the Los Angeles Geographical Society is a non-profit educational corporation dedicated to the advancement of Geography in the Los Angeles area and in Southern California.  The Society's main activities include:

 

Public Lectures:  Free public lectures on geographical topics are offered once a month from September through May (except for January).  Lectures are usually held on the first Friday of each month (unless otherwise noted) at 8:00 PM at Los Angeles City College, 855 North Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, California.  The main exception is the lecture presented at the annual banquet held at a Los Angeles restaurant during the month of December.

 

Scholarships:  Each year, the Society awards several Scholarships to outstanding Geography majors at Community Colleges and in Upper Division at Universities south of the 36th parallel.

 

Newsletter:  Southland Geographic Notes is published two or more times per year and posted to the website.  In addition, monthly communications are sent to members via e-mail.

 

Field Trips:  The Society intermittently conducts guided field trips to local places of interest in the Southern California area.
